JP Tower Museum Intermediateque is located on the second and third floors of Kitte Marunouchi directly connected to the underpass of Tokyo Station Marunouchi Line. This is the free-of-charge museum that houses the great collection of specimens and materials of various academic fields.
Intermediateque is operated by JAPAN POST Co., Ltd in partnership with The University Museum, the University of Tokyo. There is the permanent exhibition of the scientific and cultural heritage accumulated by the University of Tokyo since its foundation in 1877(Meiji 11). The genres include anatomy, archaeology, biology, engineering, geography, geology, mathematics, modern art, paleontology, and more. You can see a large variety of specimens and materials closely.
You can see many different skeletal specimens in the spacious permanent exhibition booth on the second floor. Among them, there are dynamic ones like a red deer, a masai giraffe, an ostrich, a minke whale and so on, all of which are breathtaking when seen right in front of you. Also, there is an area where the same kind of things are exhibited collectively such as mammal skeletal specimens, bird species cranial bones and reptile and amphibian species stuffed specimens collections. It must be fun to looking around comparing them.
In addition, in the permanent exhibition area, every genre of specimens and materials are exhibited: engineering equipment, shell specimens, stuffed animals, mineral substances, rocks, mineral ores, human anatomical models, laboratory instruments, portraits of historical figures, mathematical models and so on. Along with satisfying your intellectual curiosity, this can be a good opportunity to get interested in a new genre.
