Their bread is gentle both your body and mind. Atsunkopan is a popular bakery produced by a vegetable izakaya (Japanese tavern).
Atsunkopan is located three-minute walk from Awajicho Station or Ogawamachi Station. It is a popular bakery that sells bread using natural yeast and domestic produced wheat and gentle to your body.

In May, 2025, Atsunkopan reopened in a new location. The shop is in the corner of Vegetable Izakaya Genki, run by Mr. and Mrs. Miyatake, also owners of Atsunkopan. In the showcase, you can see an array of carefully baked bread using carefully selected materials such as Ako natural yeast, domestic produced wheat, Yumekaori, natural salt, cane sugar and rice oil. Product description is attached to every bread, so you can have fun in choosing bread.

It was more than 20 years ago that Mr. and Mrs. Miyatake opened this restaurant. At that time, there were few restaurants that specialized in vegetables. They were attracted to vegetables that change taste every season and decided to open an Izakaya by themselves centering in vegetables. Later, as their bread sold to a cafe was very popular, they started to sell bread during lunchtime. In this way the present Atsunkopan started.
Their specialty bread is Turkish sesame seeds bread called Simit. For authentic Simit, they immerse dough in concentrated grape juice then sprinkle sesame seeds before baking. But in Japan it is hard to get concentrated grape juice, so the owner simmer grape juice down to get similar liquid. The dough is very impressive with crispy outside and fluffy inside. With just one bite, you can taste the sesame flavor and bittersweetness like caramel all over your mouth.
Atsunkopan has a wide variety of bread, from savory bread made with selected materials, guilt-free sweet bread and so on. Dolce Dream is bread that contains Kagawa-produced corns with strong sweetness and chunky vegan cheese. The more you bite it, the more you can feel the sweetness of flour. Bread with fig, raisins and walnuts is full of ingredients and it has a juicy taste. Plus, they have Rice flour bread, which has chewy texture only rice flour could have. Vegetable croquette burger contains a lot of seasonal vegetables. Annoimoko, made with anno sweet potato from Tanegashima Island and Caramel with organic banana and date, used date and soy milk to add sweetness.
You can meet bread that satisfies you both mentally and physically. It's good for not only for daily breakfast and lunch, but also a casual souvenir. You never get tired of visiting the bakery because they prepare seasonal savory bread and limited bread so you can find something new. When you are out and around the neighborhood, visit Atsunkopan.
