Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum reopened in November, 2024.
It has a museum cafe and a museum shop.

Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum is located 5-minute walk from JR Tokyo Station. In the museum, you can appreciate a special exhibition under the theme of modern art between the late 19th century and the early 20th century. You can also visit the museum cafe and a museum shop.

Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum opened in 2010. The building is a restoration of the Mitsubishi Ichigokan(designed by Josiah Conder), which was constructed in 1894. At that time, the building housed the banking department of the Mitsubishi & Co., Ltd and three-story buildings, linked by stairs, was rented out for use as office spaces. When it was restored, they reused the stone material of handrails of the stairs and they faithfully reproduced the design, components, production methods, architectural technology and so on.
The museum mainly houses the works of late 19th century Western art, works of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Odilon Redon, Félix Vallotton and the like. The museum reopened in November 2024 and a small exhibition room was newly constructed apart from main exhibition rooms. Three times a year, small thematic exhibitions are held and mainly their collections and deposited works are displayed.

With the reopening, on the first floor, multipurpose room of approx. 44 square meters, Espace 1894 was newly established. Various events will be held here, such as lectures and workshops relating to exhibitions and small thematic exhibitions.
This is a unique place where visitors can experience the charms of art from various perspectives.

The museum shop inside the building, Store 1894 also newly opened with the renovation of the building. Under the concept of "a shop dealing with goods that make you feel stories", they carry products about which you start talking in spite of yourself. Among them, they have goods related to thematic exhibitions. They also have items at a reasonable price like capsule toys.

The attached museum cafe and bar, Café 1894 restarted business as well. Inside, you can see the classical interior faithfully restored the space with two layers of vaulted ceiling that was used for a banking business office during Meiji era(1868-1912). You can taste arranged traditional western dishes including fish and chips loved by people in the United Kingdom for centuries. It is the perfect place to give your impressions of the thematic exhibition you have just appreciated or spend your time comfortably basking in the afterglow of artworks.
