Omiya Western Confectionery Shop is 1-minute walk away from Subway Awajicho Station and faces Sotobori-dori Ave. It is a long-established store that was founded in 1884 and is known to those in the know. The cakes that are showcased in the store may look simple, but the ingredients used are selected with much care. This strict yet gentle Omiya Western Confectionery Shop is what we would like to share with everyone.

Once you open the glass doors with the store name printed on them in gold letters, you will be greeted with the sight of the store interior with its high ceiling, which still retains its incredible retro feel even after its renewal in May 2021. Customers can enjoy the cakes in-store at the back where there is a coffee corner set up. Here, customers can enjoy free flow tea, coffee, fresh juices, and vegetable soups as long as you buy a cup, so you can take your time to savor the cakes.

• The cakes at Omiya Western Confectionery Shop are made with the finest ingredients but reasonably priced, with the idea that kids eat directly from the fridge using their fingers. All the fruits used in the cakes are also purchased directly from the market by the shop owner. Out of all their products, the apple pie (450 yen) is a signature item that has been well-loved by the people for a long time. This puff pastry that is baked using plenty of butter contains chunky apple pieces, and is indeed a masterpiece that exquisitely combines the crispy pie crust with the crunch of the apples.

• The strawberry shortcake (1,000 yen) is one size smaller than the whole cake, and has about ten large strawberries sandwiched between the sponge cakes. There is no doubt that you will be able to finish this entire strawberry shortcake which allows you to enjoy the mildly sweet cream with the sweet and sour flavours of the strawberries. This is one cake that is satisfying enough to make you want to eat a whole cake.

• Omiya Western Confectionery Shop is also popular for its classic baumkuchen (1,250 yen), which old-fashioned moist texture and delivers an elegant sweetness which permeates through your mouth. In addition to cakes and baked confectionery, the store also sells other savoury breads, such as ham and cheese sandwich (90 yen) and french toast (210 yen) which is topped with bacon and eggs. It is also recommended that you stop by for lunch.
