Past Chujaku-mon Gate, Mieno-yagura sits on the southern tip of the Honmaru, 16 meters tall. Because the structure looks the same from every angle, it was also known as Happo-shomen-yagura (the all-sides guard keep). It replaced the castle tower that was destroyed by the great fire of 1657. From the top of the guard keep, you can see all the way to Mount Fuji.
