A large expanse of lawn spreads over the ruins of the Honmaru of the former Edo Castle. The Honmaru Goten (inner palace) was used for governmental purposes such as officials’ duties and hearings for shoguns. The Ōhiroma (large hall) was the most prestigious space where highest-ranking daimyos gather at special occasions such as the New Year holidays.
