Passing the Nakano-mon Gate towards the O-bansho Guardhouse, you will find a hill in front of you near a large stone-covered wall. This hill was originally the border between the lowlands that spread to the east side of Edo Castle and the plateau on which Honmaru Palace is located. When you climb it, you will find the Chujaku-mon Gate, the main gate of Honmaru. The original gate burned down in 1863 along with the Honmaru, leaving the surface of the nearby stone wall scorched by the heat. After going through the gate, you will come to an open space that was the main hall of the palace.
