Located to the north of the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, this bridge crosses the inner moats. It used to be the bridge to the Kitahanebashi-mon Gate of Edo-jo Castle. As a contingency defense for the castle, it was built as a bascule bridge. Back when much of the area was being built, this used to be the front of the castle. In the Edo era, one could see the Honmaru and the Tenshu (donjon) of Edo-jo Castle right after entering the gate. Currently only a gate and the bridge remain.
