Imperial Palace・ Tokyo Sta.・ Hibiya Ote-mon Gate
The main gate of Edo Castle, many lords from all over the country visited and entered the castle through here. Passing through, you will find yourself in a Masugata: a rectangular space between the inner and outer gates. It was not only used a way to prevent the enemy from invading the castle grounds, but also a rendezvous point for soldiers in case of an attack. You can find holes in the walls from which to shoot attackers, a common element in many Edo-period castle gates.
