Kudan-Kaikan Terrace has restaurants available for general use and is a next generation type of office that retains the traditions of the Showa period.
Kudan-Kaikan terrace (1 minute walk from the station) is a next-generation office realizing a new way of working tha advocates theme of health, safe and secure environment. In addition to the office usage, it is used as the marriage ceremonial hall and the banquet room. Tenants such as restaurants are also operating.
The former Kudan-Kaikan was built as the Gunjin-Kaikan(the Soldiers' Hall) in 1934 (Showa 9). In those days the building housed the headquarters of the Militaly Reserve Association in Japan as well as training and accomodation facilities. The architecture is in the Imperial Crown style, a concrete building with a tiled roof. The Imperial Crown style building which was often used for the Government buildings from the late Taisho to the early Showa era, is a valuable historical materials in the history of modern architecture.
The former Kudan-Kaikan ,the Soldiers' hall where the martial law headquarters was installed in in the days of the February 26 Incident in 1936 (Showa 11). After World War Ⅱ, the building was requisitioned by GHQ and used in the name of the Army Hall as the Allied Forces lodgings. After the requisition was canceled the name was changed Kudan-Kaikan, and the building was re-opened as a restaurant and a marriage ceremonial hall.
After that, a part of the former Kudan-Kaikan was preserved and restored, while a new building was extended and reopened as Kudan-Kaikan Terrace in October 2022.The preserved part of the former Kudan-Kaikan was registered as a tangible cultural property. The classical interior, which retains the atmosphere of the former Kudan-Kaikan, we can feel history and a tradition of Showa era.
Offices are the main part of the Kudan-Kaikan Terrace, but tenants such as a pharmacy, clinics, a convenience store and restaurants also operate there.Kudan-Shokudo, which is open to the general public,offers a daily changing menu with nutritional balance.You can enjoy set meal menu and nice helthy salad bowls for vegetable-deficient people today.
Kudan-Kaikan Terrace where retains the atmosphere of the Showa period. Please closely take a look at the architecture which is registered as a tangible cultural property. Taking a rest in a cafe or a restaurant is also recommended.
