Jinbocho・Ochanomizu Founding Site of Tokyo College of Music
Go along "Sarugaku-dori Street" towards Ochanomizu Elementary School at Surugadai-shita intersection and pass through Kinka Park and the former Meiji High School.
This monument stands in front of the apartment on the right, a little before the High School.
Tokyo College of Music was established here in 1907 as Toyo College of Music. The principal, Yonejiro Suzuki, founded the school to modernize Japan's musical culture, with Shuuichi Izawa, Junjiro Takakusu, and Akataro Shimazaki, who were pioneers in music education and his mentors, as trustees.
