At 27 Ichibancho, there is a metal plate of "the birthplace of Tsuda University" on the south side of the building where "Murakami Kaishindo" is. Kaishindo is famous of cookies that cannot be purchased without referral of regular customers.

Umeko Tsuda who is the founder of Tsuda University opened the "Joshi Eigaku Juku", which was a pioneering private institution of higher education for women, in Ichibancho. There were only 10 students at that time, according to the website of Tsuda University. It was based in the Bancho area until it moved to Kodaira (in Western Tokyo) in 1931.
